Minnesota veterans have a new “battle buddy”

American soldiers are trained never to do anything alone. They always have their “battle buddy” nearby. When they get back home, they often feel isolated, finding no one who can fully understand their stories. Former orphans’ oral histories reveal poignant lessons

At one point during its existence, the Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children in Owatonna housed 500 children. An award-winning 2002 documentary conveyed their candid and often sad stories in their own words. Now a new digitization project will make the Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum’s oral history collection available to everyone. Don Lee reports. [Read Transcript...]

Habitat improvements offer hope for Minnesota’s declining moose population

Trying to prevent what happened in Northwest Minnesota, where moose have nearly died out, the Minnesota Moose Collaborative is restoring moose habitat in Northeast Minnesota. New exhibits reveal rich history and lots to do at Jay Cooke Park

As home to the well-known Swinging Bridge and located near Duluth, just off Interstate 35, Jay Cooke State Park is one of Minnesota’s favorite outdoor destinations. The River Inn, another longtime attraction at Jay Cooke, hasn’t been significantly remodeled since the 1970s.
