Friday night, Debbie Duncan sings at Vieux Carre from 9 till midnight. Then on Sunday Aug 19, she does a completely different show at Crooners with her brother William and Twin Cities gospel singing legend Robert Robinson. When Debbie talked with Phil Nusbaum, they started with Debbie featuring tracks from her new CD at the Vieux Carre show.
Bemidji 10th grader Charlotte Saxton took home first prize in the 15-25 year age bracket of the Bemidji Sings! competition earlier this month with her rendition of Don’t Rain on My Parade. In late September she’ll compete against vocalists from across the state in the Minnesota Sings! competition. She’s passionate about pursuing dreams of musical theater and to that she’s honing her craft. Private voice lessons, competitive show choir and the Bemidji high school musical are just a few of the ways she’s strengthening her chops. Charlotte stopped by KBXE to chat about the Bemidji Sings! competition, what will happen at the state finals and, among other things, how she calms those butterflies when overcome with nervousness before performing.

Daniel Lemm shares how his love of numbers led to his career in philanthropy, helping get resources out into communities and in a good way. Daniel also speaks about working through loss, learning to proudly embrace his heritage, and the importance of support from others along his journey.

Karen Kelley-Ariwoola, veteran philanthropic executive and community leader joins Seed, Inc. and the Harvest Network of Schools* as Chief Officer of Strategic Alliances, effective July 1, 2013. Kelley-Ariwoola most recently held the position of Vice President, Community Philanthropy at The Minneapolis Foundation where she served for 18 years prior to her departure in 2012. In 2006 – 2007 Karen also served as the Interim President and CEO of the Foundation. In her new role Karen will be responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of donors, funders, and other key stakeholders who can contribute to realizing the mission of Harvest Preparatory School, Best Academy, and the Mastery Schools. In particular, Karen will assist with the strategic growth and addition of three new Mastery Schools over the next decade in partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools, as well as the expansion of early childhood programs across the Network.
Karen is well known nationally and locally in both the philanthropic and nonprofit communities.
