The next layer of local.

We get the question a lot: nope, we’re not part of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), or TPT, or Minnesota’s other public community television stations. We’re the independent next layer of local. Our 17 radio stations include those in Native communities, Greater Minnesota, on college campuses, and more. Programs are voiced, sourced, and reported by the communities they serve.

Did you know?

  • We’re more than radio: we stream online, host community events, and more
  • Programming spans 11 languages, sharing local news, history, and culture that reflects Minnesota’s diversity
  • Even during power outages, AMPERS stations keep communities informed with emergency broadcast
  • Stations run on lean teams (some as small as 2 staff!) and hundreds of passionate volunteers
  • Locally owned and operated, stations amplify voices often under- or misrepresented in other media.
  • Each year, 1,300 students gain hands-on journalism and broadcasting experience through training and reporting
  • For the first time in decades, community stations will not receive critical funding they rely on due to federal funding cuts ….

Free local programs and services are at risk.

The kind of radio AMPERS shares is community-building – sometimes even live-saving – and always free. We rely on public support to power this service for all Minnesotans regardless of geography or background.

Due to federal funding cuts, some AMPERS stations lost or will lose up to 50% of their funding. Right now, community support is critically needed.

Your gift is more important than ever to power trusted local reporting, amplify underrepresented voices, and broadcast critical emergency alerts without interruption for all Minnesotans.

Community radio is lean and deeply connected. When any station struggles, the whole group feels it. That’s why we’re working together to raise relief funds to support AMPERS and its 17 Minnesota community stations during this critical time. Make a special gift now to support AMPERS and its associated stations today.
