Café Southside in Minneapolis is a unique café that combines organic food and community engagement. Owners Roxanne Anderson and Anna Meyer are both life and business partners. They spoke to KFAI producer Dixie Treichel about the cafe and its diverse clientele, including neighborhood residents, youth, GLBT folks and people of color. Café Southside serves organic food, hosts art and music events, offers catering and provides space for community meetings. It is located at 3405 Chicago Av S in Minneapolis.

The Winona Human Rights Commission and Winona State University sponsored a community forum in response to the recent displays of the Confederate Flag and the Maplewood Town Home incident. Last week we featured Presenters Dr, Chuck Ripley, Professor of English, John Campbell from the History Department, and Dr Lee from the Political Science Dept and Diana Miller Ex Director of the Womens Resouce. Together they presented the history of the flag; its past and current uses as a tool of political intimidation and domestic terrorism; its impact on community members; and how we, as a public, can positively respond to symbols of hate and intimidation. Today we bring you the responses of community members during the forum. First you will hear the reaction to the accident that took place this summer when a 18 year old caucasian male driving a pickup truck with a confederate flag hit a small African American child in the Maplewood Townhome housing commiunity in Winona and the actions that followed.

DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen joins Heidi and John on the Thursday Morning Show to talk about the importance of fishing to the state of Minnesota. She tells us fishing is a time-honored tradition in Minnesota and also a big business, providing economic activity and building communities.
Commissioner Strommen talks with John and Heidi about the DNR initiative to be more inclusive and include all Minnesotans to be involved in fishing and other outdoor activities. The DNR has created a platform for diverse outdoor enthusiasts to share their stories and photos by going to #MyMNOutdoorAdventure.
