Since Donald Trump was elected U-S President, people have been waiting to see what action he will take on the Dakota Access Pipeline. In this past week we got our first hint. Those who oppose the pipeline continue to focus attention on their concerns. On Inauguration day hundreds gathered for the Black Snake Resistance March in south Minneapolis. For those unfamiliar – the black snake refers to rivers of oil being pumped from the land. Reporter Melissa Townsend marched along Franklin Avenue with the group.
This week on Minnesota Native News we hear about the #NODAPL month of action, a new leader at the helm of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council and community members volunteer to lead culturally specific sobriety programs for Native women in the Shakopee prison.
Winter weather has arrived as the Standing Rock Standoff continues…
Earlier this week, North Dakota governor Jack Dalrymple ordered the evacuation of the Standing Rock protest site citing safety concerns over harsh weather… but state officials say no forcible removals are planned.
Meanwhile, as many as two-thousand U.S. military veterans announced they are mobilizing to protect the camp… starting next week.
