A lot of us are familiar with Will Weaver and his books, novels, short stories and his writing for young adult readers. Will is an author and a professor, and he’s also the founder of the Lit Weaver website. Last month he read to a full house at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji. Area Voices producer Alauna Yust was there, too, recording the reading. Here’s Will Weaver, reading a passage from “The Last Hunter: An American Family Album.”


The Beat: Will Weaver – “The Tow Rope”

Will Weaver grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. He’s attended St. Cloud State, the University of Minnesota, and Stanford. He was a Professor of English at Bemidji State University for twenty-four years. Will Weaver is a full-time writer now, having written in the range of a dozen books of fiction and nonfiction. He is also a poet.

Will Weaver, Bemidji-area author of books like “Sweet Land,” is also deep into the young-adult writing business. His current entry in that field is a trilogy of Motornovels, books about a teenage stock car racer working his way into the big time. Wanting to attract attention for the novels and get young people, especially young men, reading, Weaver jumped into the real thing about three years ago.
