In 1924, Minnesota entomologist Marshall Hertig and a colleague discovered a bacteria residing in mosquitoes. He called it Wolbachia. Britt Aamodt has the story on the bacteria that can change the sex of insects and may hold the key to stemming mosquito-borne viruses.
