Lila Ammons performs Saturday night June 5 at 7 at the Granada in Minneapolis. Twin Cities music fans know Lila Ammons for her renditions of blues and historic jazz, but the pandemic has caused Lila to think about a new emphasis. She talked to Phil Nusbaum about it.
Chris Silver is a folk and americana musician from River Falls, WI, while Craig Evans is a St. Paul based musician and filmmaker focusing on historic music traditions. Together they’ve collaborated on an album called Old-Timelesss Conversations, a compilation of some of their favorite old-time tunes. They appear on the Scenic Route and talk with Will Moore about working on the record, the conversations they documented while recording the songs distantly during the pandemic.

This week on Minnesota Music Notes Brett Carter features Minneapolis Hip-Hop Artist Nur-D. events of the past year have led to topical songs, including issues surrounding the black and brown community. After the murder of George Floyd, the trajectory of Nur-D’s music changed. He produced two albums since them, with a new focus on racial justice and race politics.
Nur-D’s real name is Matt Allen, he has been a rising star in the Twin Cities music scene since 2018, winning Go radio’s “shut up and rap” contest in his first four times in a row.
