Three Acclaimed Guitarists from Minnesota Share the Crooners Stage for the First Time This Friday

Pat Donohue, Tim Sparks and Phil Heywood are Minnesota-based guitarists who play the strings using individual fingers, in other words, without holding a pick. The three have been acclaimed far and wide for their finger-style playing, but the three have never shared a stage. That changes Friday July 16 in the Main Room at Crooners. Pat Donohue was the driving force behind the show.


Climatologist Mark Seeley talks current drought, looks ahead to summer

Mark Seeley is a longtime climatologist and commentator on MPR. He joined Brian on The Roadhouse to talk about the drought conditions across Minnesota and if any relief could be on the way this summer.

As we emerge from the COVID pandemic, vaccination rates have slowed down. There are some people who are hesitant to get the vaccine.

Dr. Louis Mansky, an expert in human virology and director of the Institute for Molecular Virology at the University of Minnesota joined Brian to talk about vaccine myths, continued hesitancy, and vaccine development.

The Plant Based Poets Show at the Hook and Ladder Features Improvised, Cutting Edge Music

The Plant Based Poets Show stages organic self-expression through live music, dance, art & food. It’ll be outdoors at the Hook and Ladder in Minneapolis at 7PM on July 10. Terrell Woods, also known as Carnage the Executioner is the force behind the 3 band show featuring Saltee, Ill Chemistry, The Orange Goodness and dance by Jodi Sieger’s Rhythm and Shoes. Terrell told Phil Nusbaum about the philosophy behind the show.

Michaela Raymond, Valerie Conner & The Courage to Come Out

Michaela Raymond came out to her wife Valerie as transgender after more than 20 years of marriage and 70 years of hiding herself. Valerie responded with love and curiosity. Three years later, they continue the adventure together.

This Duluth native is releasing her ninth album, Bones, on July 1. In addition to being an accomplished violin player and vocalist, she is a visual artist, author, a Master of Yoga, and a teacher of music and yoga. Her new album was recorded during the pandemic and several songs reflect those difficult times. We’ll find out more and hear some songs when she joins us in the studio on Tuesday, June 29 at 2pm.
