State Auditor Julie Blaha discusses real world impact of small forfeitures on families and the real joys in creating crop art

The MN State Auditor’s Office recently released a report indicating the negative impact small forfeitures have on Minnesotans and their families. MN Auditor Julie Blaha joined the morning show to discuss the data behind the report, how it might be used to inform police reform, and in a surprise MN State Fair Week twist, she also discussed her award winning crop art!


Celebrating and Supporting Bemidji’s LGBTQ+ Community

Rail River Folk School in Bemidji will host Bemidji Pride in celebration of all things LGBTQ+. Family-friendly events begin at 1pm and include speakers, vendors, food, kids activities and loads of fun. Saturday night Foxby will entertain at 7pm and the drag show begins at 8pm! After the drag show, a late night dance party will top the night off.

Ben Cahill and Christian Taylor-Johnson are part of the organizing team behind Bemidji Pride. In this Area Voices segment, they share very different personal experiences growing up and coming out, the positive power of occasions like Pride events, and advice for parents on how to best support their LGBTQ+ children.

A Minnesota perspective on the recent UN climate report

The UN climate report that was recently released is pretty bleak, basically stating we’re running out of time to avert major climate disaster. Prof. Heidi Roop of the department of soil, water, and climate at the University of Minnesota joined Julie to explain the report’s findings.

Kenne Thomas’ Lifeforce Plays Jazz that is both Rooted and Modernistic

Kenne Thomas is from Chicago, has lived and played jazz in Japan and then took up residence in the Twin Cities. Kenne’s group, knits together many stylistic ingredients, and the group is called Lifeforce. Why? That’s what Phil Nusbaum asked when he talked to Kenne.
