Production about The Life of Leonard Bernstein told Through Songs and Letters at Crooners This Weekend

Dear Lenny: Bernstein’s Life in Songs and Letters pays tribute to the multi-dimensional Leonard Bernstein. The production features some of his vast catalog of musical creations, plus his correspondence with family members and other musical luminaries. The production comes to Crooner’s in Fridley, Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 5 PM. We join Phil Nusbaum with the show’s performers.


New CD by Gypsy Marks a New Direction

Gypsy, one of Minnesota’s most popular groups ever, marks its fiftieth anniversary with a CD called Red Stone Line. The songs on the CD were written by band member James Walsh, as he was emerging from a bout with Covid. James told Phil Nusbaum that the songs represent a new direction for Gypsy.

Gypsy, one of Our Town’s most popular groups ever, plays its 50 year anniversary show at Crooners, Saturday November 13 at 7PM. But suddenly, Gypsy has a batch of new songs by band member James Walsh. In a conversation with with Phil Nusbaum, James explained that the songs were an outcome of his Covid experience.


Endazhi- Nitaawiging: The Place Where it Grows

One year from now children living on the Red Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota will have another option for education-one tailored just for them. The Endazhi-Nitaawiging charter school will offer a unique an innovative curriculum based in Ojibwe culture. It’s a model guided by the NACA Inspired Education Network that has proven effective in creating meaningful education that feeds both the mind and spirit of indigenous youth.

Monday morning a feast was shared, prayers were sent up, and elders, dignitaries, and school organizers spoke. Tobacco was offered and there was drumming, singing, and dancing. Incorporating native wisdom and culture into all aspects of school curriculum has been a long time dream of many indigenous people.

Explorer Liv Arnesen talks “Skiing into the Bright Open”

Many of us have had dreams of extravagant adventures, faraway places, and goals that may to some seem out of our reach. Liv Arnesen is an explorer, adventurer, educator, motivational speaker, mother, author and so much more. She’s the first woman to attempt and complete a solo expedition to the South Pole in 1994. Julie spoke with Liv about her book “Skiing Into the Bright Open: My Solo Journey to the South Pole,” first published in 1995 and recently translated into English.

Managing chronic pain with nonmedical treatments

We’ve all heard about the challenges of managing chronic pain without creating addiction or causing negative side effects from drugs. But there are non-medical ways to approach chronic pain that can make a real difference. Dave spoke with Dr. Roni Evans to learn more.
