Climatologist Mark Seeley on recent record-breaking weather events

It’s been a week of very strange weather, so we wanted to check in with one of our favorite experts, Mark Seeley. He’s a climatologist and MPR commentator. He spoke with Brian to give his thoughts on the recent weather events in Minnesota.

Dre AKA Jamaican returns with “Minnesota Dre”

Local hip hop artist Dre AKA Jamaican, the moniker of Andre Robinson, has come out with his second record in under 6 months. Minnesota Dre is a more personal album that he says showcases how his music making skills have grown. Robinson talks about his early days performing, growing up with music in Jamaica, and writing more songs with the kids at Great Expectations School.


Scenic Route: Christopher David Hanson and new album “Simplify”

Christopher David Hanson returns to the Scenic Route talking about his latest album Simplify. He talks about making music videos for the new songs, inspirations behind them, and as always his dog Minnow.


Scenic Route: Spinning Voices brings electronic twist to Swedish folk songs

Spinning Voices is the moniker of David Boeser, a St. Louis Park based electronic musician who uses analog synthesizers and the 8-bit sounds of a classic Game Boy to make music. His album from this summer called Tusen Tack reimagines traditional Swedish folk songs he learned as a child at the American Swedish Institute into fully electronic compisions. He speaks with Will Moore on the Scenic Route about the project and how he makes music.


Scenic Route: Alexander Craig shares wealth of new music

Alexander Craig is a Twin Cities-based guitarist currently recording a new album full of new songs with a new direction in mind. Craig says this upcoming album will get away from his past of writing “songs about cars” and focus on more uplifting themes and understanding how people interact with one another. He performed many of the new songs on Scenic Route with Will Moore and Annie Possis.

Scenic Route: Mark Joseph goes country on new “Vegas Motel”

Mark Joseph is a longtime Minnesota-based songwriter known for being part of the Big Wu and frequent trips to the Cook County area performing with his band American Soul. His most recent album is called Vegas Motel and is the most acoustic and Americana-style of his records to date. He talks with Will Moore about the themes of the album, working with producer JT Bates, and more.


Scenic Route: Ian Tamblyn performs from Quebec

Ian Tamblyn is an award-winning and long heralded folk musician from Canada who has recorded over 45 albums and fills his music with a love of adventure, travel, and the natural world. His latest record is called A Longing For Innocence, featuring sixteen new tracks. He chats with Will Moore about the difficulties and sometimes literal roadblocks that came with recording the album during the pandemic, inspiration for songs from animals, and other projects he’s working on.


One Less Guest releases The Perch Sessions cover EP

Twin Ports band One Less Guest made their way out West to Anaheim, CA last year to continue their musical journey, but not before recording a number of their favorite songs in Duluth to be made into an EP. The Perch Sessions feature five of the bands most beloved cover tracks and paves the way for an upcoming second full length album. Guitarist Nick Muska and vocalist/fiddler Ren Cooper join Will Moore to talk about the new release and playing music in Orange County.
