Festival director Jacob White joins producer Katie Carter to talk about the inaugural event in Ely, the End of the Road! film festival. The event will be held February 9th – 12th, 2023 at Ely’s Historic State Theater. The festival will feature local, regional and national filmmakers, who will present works that explore themes of identity, community, connection to place, adventure and creativity.
Producer Katie Carter is at the Miikanan Gallery in the Watermark Art center in Bemidji. She talks with Kevin Finney, executive director of Great Lakes Lifeways Institute. An international organization dedicated to gathering knowledge passed through Indigenous lines and helping people to learn those ways. They are at the gallery for the exhibit Gaa-miinigoowiziyang “What We Were Given”, a display of items made in the traditional Anishinaabe way. Finney tells how to make a ricing canoe like the one that is on display.
