Third Coast Chamber Collective is a group of emerging musicians from diverse backgrounds devoted to promoting the transformative power of Chamber music through inspiring performances, residencies and workshops. Events will be happening in both Grand Rapids and Bemidji August 22, 28th, and 29th. Cellist Magdelena Sas and violinist Natalia Korenchuk joined the morning show to discuss how they hope chamber music affects audiences, their own globe-trekking musical journeys and the universal language of music.

The Beltrami County Historical Society celebrates the release of three new publications Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 4-8pm. Emily Thabes became Executive Director of the history center in April of this year. Sue Bruns contributed to and collaborated on the publications. In this interview Thabes shares how her history in library science lends itself well to her role at the history center and Bruns discusses the processes of creating publications that encapsulate 125 years of Bemidji’s history.
Headwaters Music and Arts hosts its annual Fiddle Camp this week. Campers range from beginners to advanced players who are playing fiddles, cello, guitar and bodhran. Instructors Brian Miller, Mary Vanorny, Claire Vanorny, Carrie Dlutkowski, and Eric Carlson stopped by the KBXE studio to discuss what happens at fiddle camp, how they each were charmed by Irish music, and what they hope the campers take back into their real lives after camp week is finished.
It’s National Farmer’s Market Week! Erin Haefele from the Walker Farmer’s Market joined the morning show today. She discussed the Walker market’s humble beginnings, the positive impact it makes on the Walker community, and how it’s grown to over 40 vendors selling vegetables, flowers, art, baked goods and much more every Thursday from 9-2.
Mary Therese is a Bemidji area painter who explores space, light, form, and movement. She designs drawings on fabric surfaces with dyes and beeswax. She’s also a muralist who designs murals in an community inclusive way. Her latest mural project is a response to the pandemic and is funded by a Creative Support Grant thru the Minnesota State Arts Board. She’s engaged 50 individuals, young and old, from various cultures to create her Hopes, Dreams and Visions mural which will soon be on the Harmony Co-op building in Bemidji. Learn about her inspiration for the project and how she navigated the communal work in a pandemic world where in person meetings were often not possible.
