The Surface Design Association’s (SDA) thought-provoking, collaborative exhibit “Earth Matters” begs the assessment of human impact on the ecology of our world. The show can be viewed thru the end of October at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji. Executive Director of SDA Karena Bennett discusses the history of the SDA and the powerful exhibit in this Area Voices segment.

Sod House is touring to a number of communities in Minnesota this autumn with their production of “Arla Mae’s Booyah Wagon.” Through a grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council, Luverne and his wife (a co-founder of the Sod House Theater group) are performing in Crookston, MN (Sept 24), Hallock, MN (Sept 25), and Stephen, MN (Sept 26).

Gillian Bedford has been painting and exhibiting for decades. Her most recent exhibit “Landscapes and Abstracts of the North Woods” is currently on view at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, MN. Her daughter Amara Bedford is showing her first solo art show “A Visual Celebration of Nature as our Healer” across the street at the Old Central School in Grand Rapids. They’ve been inspiring and supporting each other creatively for decades. In this Area Voices learn about their individual journeys with art, how their family life cultivated wonder, Amara’s focus on art as therapy, their individual styles and processes, and of course their exhibits!

Lindsey Bergan joined the morning show to discuss the initiative, how it came to be and what’s going on this First Thursday!
The drought is having an effect on multiple aspects of regular life in Minnesota. Minnesota DNR Waterfowl Specialist Steve Cordts joined the morning show to discuss the work he does and the impact the drought has had on waterfowl as well as the wetlands they use for sustenance. He also discussed Minnesota’s upcoming teal season for which opening day is this Saturday. It will be Minnesota’s first teal season since 1965.
