Radio K (KUOM) – Program Advisor (FT)

JOB SUMMARY
The Program Advisor at Radio K will be responsible to drive creation and implementation of Real College Radio student-run programming, lead and mentor students in an experiential learning environment, supervise student staff, and serve as a representative of Radio K to the University of Minnesota and larger community. The Program Advisor reports to the Radio K Director within the Office for Student Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advising & Support
1. Serve as advisor to students (30%)

  • Drive student creation and implementation of ground-breaking programming that informs, educates, and entertains
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce station policies and FCC rules
  • Generate outreach efforts on-campus and in the community
  • Strengthen brand presence to increase student participation

2. Supervise student staff and DJs (20%)

  • Create and enforce policies and practices that provide experiential learning, structure, and flexibility
  • Encourage leadership, creativity, and collaboration
  • Coach on-air staff: conduct regular airchecks and develop programming to increase listenership
  • Provide training and internship opportunities for students

Programmatic Development: Mentor Real College Podcast staff and volunteers (25%)

  •  Coach students to produce a weekly Arts and Culture Podcast that is aired over terrestrial streams and available as a podcast
  • Train students in audio editing, storytelling, production and producing content
  • Work within a grant budget

Fundraising : Fundraising Lead (15%)

  • Collaborate and coach the Membership Director to plan all aspects of membership drives: goal setting, on-air scripts, timelines, donor reports, etc.
  • Prepare, oversee, and lead Radio K’s annual Student Fees request
  • Initiate unique fundraising campaigns, such as year-end giving
  • Grant writing ability and benchmark reporting per grant requirements

Administration: University Liason (10%)

  • Represent Radio K on and off-campus as needed
  • Maintain station’s compliance with FCC rules and regulations
  • Ensure Sound Exchange and PROs (ASCAP, BMI and SESAC) compliance
  • Provide support and other duties as needed

Compensation: Salary range is $58,000 – $62,000

Qualifications, Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or a master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with fundraising campaigns including donor acquisition, retention, and growing current donor value
  • Experience mentoring/teaching students in an experiential learning environment
  • Willingness and ability to be available via cell phone 24/7 and to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Able to function productively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment, work independently and accept direction.
  • Possess a high-energy, positive attitude, and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in multiple departments
  • Dedication and enthusiasm for Radio K’s dual mission to educate and serve the community

About the Department:
KUOM – branded Radio K – is a daytime-only, non-commercial educational college/alternative rock radio station licensed to serve Minneapolis, Minnesota. Owned by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, the station is operated by both faculty and students.
