Women make up 47% of the US workforce, but hold only a small fraction of computer and IT jobs in the US. The latest stats from the Department of Labor say that women hold less than 25% of all computer and IT jobs. A nationwide organization is working to change that. Girls Who Code gives middle school and high school girls a chance to build computer science and STEM skills hands-on. Jennifer Theisen is a programmer at BSU; she founded the Northern Minnesota Girls Who Code chapter in 2014. In just over a year, the chapter has gained about two dozen members, and was featured in Chelsea Clinton’s new book “It’s Your World” for an experimental app they developed. Jennifer Theisen joined us over the phone to talk more about the club.
