Honor the Earth Environmental Features: Gardening North of 60

On today's Honor the Earth Environmental Features, Winona speaks with "garden doula" Lone Sorenson, a resident of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, on Dene territories. Lone is a "Danish transplant to the north" and has lived on Dene homelands for 26 years. North of 60, Lone has about 120 frost-free days to garden, she says, despite being 1,000 miles north of Edmonton. Together, Winona and Lone discuss what gardening north of 60 looks like, including the foods and the harvesting methods in Dene territories and food security in the north, along with the community gardening programs that Lone supports in her work. And, don't miss the gardening tip of the week! Lone shares a soil-growing tip from the north, which involves caribou hair.
