The 1930’s and 40’s were known as the “Golden Age” of cinema for good reason: movie theaters were a big neighborhood gathering place, and a fixture of local communities. So when the historic Hollywood Theater in Minneapolis closed its doors in 1987, the city decided to buy the property a few years later. As producer Sam Radwany reports, they’re now using a grant from the Legacy Amendment to preserve and restore this theater, inside and out.
