This is Minnesota's Legacy, a look at the organizations and the people who have benefited from Minnesota's Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
Katharine DeCelle: In St Paul, three women found each other, a community and a lot of laughter.
Mooks and May: We enjoy storytelling. We like to be around each other, and comedy comes up naturally in all of our work. Not all of us.
Katharine DeCelle: That's Mooks and May, both playwrights and both founding members, along with Naomi Ko of the Funny Asian Women Collective, or FAWK. Here's May.
May: We have a rolling roster of artists who participate with us, and a lot of them are Hmong.
Katharine DeCelle: Founded in 2014, FAWK is a collective of artists dedicated to Asian women being themselves uncensored with comedy.
May: Can we do a Hmong show that is unapologetically bilingual?
Katharine DeCelle: To commemorate 50 years of Southeast Asians in Minnesota, FAWK received Legacy funds to create a live comedy show.
Mooks and May: We called it Hmong Plus Friends Super Show.
Katharine DeCelle: The Hmong Plus Friends Super Show was performed at the Ordway Theater in St Paul to a sold-out crowd.
Mooks and May: Five solo acts, skit, live sketch, yeah, some video work that really centered Southeast Asian stories.
Katharine DeCelle: FAWK will be releasing video of the show on their website soon.
