The annual Zeitgeist new Music Ensemble annual Hallowe’en event takes place Thursday October 31 through Sunday Nov 3 at Studio Z in St Paul. The event features haunting sounds, spooky stories and commissioned musical works with Hallowe’en themes. Phil Nusbaum spoke with some Zeitgeist New Music people including bass clarinetist Pat O’Keefe, who composed one of the pieces Zeitgeist will perform.
The Acme Jazz Company performs Swing and a whole lot more at Crooner’s in Fridley, this Thursday October 24. Doors open at 6, and the band starts at 7:30. Phil Nusbaum visited with Acme arranger Bob Parsons and vocalist Arne Fogel for some inside Acme Jazz Company insights.

Abigail Arrowsmith is a wide-traveling fiddler who played with folk punk groups like Rail Yard Ghosts and steeps herself in various American fiddle traditions. During a journey up north she stopped by WTIP to give us a taste of her skills and shares thoughts about the appeal of playing traditional music, hitchhiking, busking, and more.
Jef Cerniak is a guitarist based out of Ely, MN who spent many years in the Grand Marais music scene, especially at the Gunflint Tavern. His influences range from jazz to rock to Carribean music, and his abilities have let him play all over the world. He shares his experiences with Will Moore, talking about playing in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, and even with members of the Grateful Dead. The interview comes ahead of a performance with Rod Dockan at the Wunderbar in Grand Marais.
The Delphia Cello Quartet begins a monthly residency this Friday night at the Aster in Minneapolis from 8 till 10. The quartet is managed by Julia Floberg who also is one of the cellists. As we open this report, the Delphia Cello Quartet is playing a J.S. Bach piece for a dance form known as a sarabond.
