Today we’re gonna hear some blues from a band that many don’t consider blues. But the fact of the matter is, everything they’ve ever done has blues roots intertwined if not just pure blues! I like to give credit where credit is due to the blues and those who carry the blues torch whether they are considered a “Blues” band or not.
The year is 1959. Inspite of music trends changing, Chess Records in Chicago is still busy recording blues in hopes of getting more sales with hits on the charts. Big Bill Broonzy has been gone a year and someone thinks a tribute album to him will sell. Muddy Waters is called to the task.
In my search of blues artist, I often stumble upon great musicians that to the mass majority of top radio listeners seem to be non-existant because of the lack-of-exposure on commercial radio. Hence is the “norm” for many blues artists. Case in point, is Canada’s Layla Zoe, who is indeed known in the blues circles and is one who deserves much more recognition in the overall music world.
Started in 2006 by Guitarist/Vocalist Vyasa Dodson, Delta Groove Recording Artists The Insomniacs, add their own unique and fresh sound to West Coast Blues, Swing and Old School R&B. Anchored by a tight rhythm section featuring Dave Melyan on drums and Allen Markel on bass, replacing original bassist Dean Mueller, The Insomniacs have a strong foundation on which to build their many original tunes and obscure covers.
