Creativity Conference

The 2018 Richard Paul Teske Sieur du Lhut Creativity Conference is happening Monday, Oct. 15, and the public is invited to attend. With two talented creative professionals speaking on the role of creativity across cultures and disciplines, the conference serves as an annual resource for students, faculty, artists and the greater community to better connect their creativity with the work they do.
Joining us on Radio Gallery is Amy Whitaker, Professor of Arts Administration at NYU. With a focus on both creativity and business, and holding an MFA and an MBA, she shares stories from her second book called “Art Thinking.”


Duluth Superior Pride Exhibit

The Duluth Superior Pride Festival is four days of celebrating the rich LGBT community in the Northland. Thursday is the Duluth Mayor’s reception at The Depot and Friday evening Zeitgeist hosts the DS Pride Exhibition with a reception at 7 p.m.

The Pride Exhibit includes work from 11 local artists and will be on display through September. We spoke with local artists Janelle Turner Miller and Stacie Renee of Warrior Printress, an independent printing company in Duluth.


Plein Air Festival

The week-long 2018 Plein Air Grand Marais painting festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 7. An annual mecca for painters across Minnesota, this year touts lectures, exhibits and additional workshops open to anyone, not only competing artists. Over 70 painters are competing for honors in quick paint, best in show and other categories, submitting a number of works from their week spent painting on the North Shore. Duluth painter and founder of the Great Lakes Fine Art Academy, Jeffery T. Larson is the sole juror of the Plein Air Grand Marais exhibition that caps the festival and joins us on Radio Gallery along with Allison Eklund, events coordinator of Outdoor Painters of Minnesota.


Alyssa Johnson

Recently returned Duluthian Alyssa Johnson is finding new audiences for her work in photography opening her second show in as many months. Her new showcase called Once Upon an Imagination, and is aptly subtitled, “Rediscovering our youthful sense of wonder.” Her show, which captures glimpses of nature through fresh eyes, opens at The Red Herring Lounge on Thursday Dec. 13


A Tacky Christmas at the Museum

Back in the day, the Congdon family converged on Duluth to celebrate the holidays at their favorite winter estate in the Christmas City. The Glensheen Congdon Estate Museum house has continued to celebrate the holiday season in grand style and this year adds a family friendly addition to their holiday displays.
