Weaving Community Together: Art Collaboration at the Nemeth

Art possesses the unique super power of bringing people together. The Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids, MN is hosting a unique arts collaboration this summer that has connected Columbian-born visual artist Luisa Fernanda Garcia-Gomez with northern Minnesota textile artist Bruce Engebretson. Together, Luisa and Bruce are spending the summer working on projects at the Nemeth, a collaboration the Nemeth calls “Weaving Community Together”. Throughout the summer, Luisa is working with community members on a variety of visual art projects while Bruce is working at his loom inside creating a large tapestry inspired by Luisa’s exibit at the Nemeth called “Impossible Landscapes.”


Slam Poets in Bemidji

The Red Stu in downtown Bemidji hosted the 2nd slam poetry competition for the season July 10th. We spoke with a couple of slam poets about what happens at a slam event and what they appreciate about slam poetry.

First Friday Cavalcade: Ely, MN July Events

The Ely Folk School is home to a variety of classes from jewelry making to blacksmithing. On the first Friday of every month, Betty Firth tells us all about what activities will be happening that month at the folk school. Herbal infused oils, skin treatments, pine basket weaving and so much more are included in the offerings this month! If you know of someone who is a blacksmith, they are looking to connect with a blacksmith to advance their blacksmithing classes as well.


Area Voices: Eric Haugen, Cellist

Eric Haugen began playing the cello at the age of three. He’s now completed undergraduate studies in cello performance and is in the process of completing his master’s degree in cello performance. He grew up in Bemidji and is back in town for a couple of weeks. We caught up with him on the morning show where he told us about his path as a musician, what he’s up to now and what’s in his future.


Celebrating Freedom in Goodridge, Minnesota!

Eric Mikelson of Goodridge, MN shares details of the annual “Freedom Festival” in Goodridge on Saturday, July 27, 2019. The event will feature live music on stage all day long and into the evening. Festival performers are from NW Minnesota, and the event includes a 5K run and booths featuring vendors of all kinds. Those who have served and are serving the United States in the military will also be honored. The event is free and funded in part by the NWMAC.
