This Minneapolis soulful indie pop group was founded early last year by singer/songwriter Rachelle LaNae and producer Andrew Frederick, both multi-instrumentalists. They’ve released one infectious EP, The Mini Album. We found out more about this new-ish band when they joined us in the studio on Tuesday, July 23 at 2pm.


David Huckfelt

A member of The Pines, Huckfelt recently released his first solo album, ‘Stranger Angels’. It was the culmination of spending two isolated weeks as an Artist in Residence for the National Park Service on Isle Royale. He drew in friends ranging from Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles to Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso to record the album. Huckfelt performs as part of the Water is Life Festival happening on Sunday, July 21 at Bayfront Festival Park. He joined us in the studio to talk about the new album and share some tunes on Wednesday, July 17 at 2pm.


MN Reads: “Mrs. Ambassador: The Life and Politics of Eugenie Anderson” by Mary Dupont

Eugenie Anderson and Coya Knutson had a lot in common. They were born three years apart (1909 and 1912), they both entered Minnesota politics in the ’40s and they died only a year apart (1997 and 1996).

New and established Minnesota-based writers of the LGBTQIA+ community have had their voices heard via the Queer Voices reading series since 1993.

A forgotten grocery-store box simply labeled “Fitz” was the genesis for Michael Schumacher’s The Trial of the Edmund Fitzgerald: Eyewitness Accounts from the U.S. Coast Guard Hearings.


MN Reads: “The Lost Brothers” by Jack El-Hai

Jack El-Hai’s non-fiction book, The Lost Brothers, tells the harrowing story of three little boys, ages 8, 6 and 4, who went to the park a few blocks from their Minneapolis home 68 years ago and were never seen again.

Katya Zepeda, a member of the NWMAC Board of Directors, shares her thoughts concerning her service on the board and the value of the NWMAC in the region. Katya mentions upcoming openings on the NWMAC Board, with an emphasis and goal of expanding the equity and diversity of the board.


Area Voices: Nik Nerburn discusses MNartists.org

Nik Nerburn is a documentary storyteller, a photographer, a blogger and a filmmaker. He’s also the Greater Minnesota Outreach Associate for MNartists.org. MNartists.org is a website that is home to art, writing, project opportunities and conversations by, for and about Midwestern artists working in every discipline. He spoke with us on the morning show about the many ways MNartists.org is a powerful resource for artists living all across the Midwest and specifically how it can be a resource for rural artists.


First Friday in Grand Rapids: Meet MN Author James Luger

Today we welcomed MN author James Luger in our studios for the 1st Friday Cavalcade of the Arts. James has a new novel called “Lost in Dalat – The Courage of a Family Torn by War”.


Area Voices: Fiddler and Step Dancer Carrie Dlutkowski

Carrie Dlutkowski is passionate about fiddle music – particularly the Scottich, French-Canadian and Metis styles which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Dlutowski is spending time at area schools this week sharing her talents of fiddling as well as step dancing. This Friday and Saturday she will conduct fiddle and step dancing workshops at Headwaters School of Music and Arts that focus on the Scottish, French and Metis traditions. She’ll lead a step dancing workshop Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening, Carrie will be joined by Brian Miller and Norah Rendell as the three of them perform a special evening of music celebrating Canadian music traditions and songs of the north woods.
