“An embarassment of riches.”
That’s what retired MNHS Press editor Marilyn Ziebarth and exhibit curator Brian Horrigan had to wade through when they concieved of a book to tell the stories of Christmas in Minnesota through a variety of voices: old, new, men, women, contemporary and pre-statehood, funny, sad, poignant and more.
“Christmas in Minnesota,” edited by Marilyn Ziebarth and Brian Horrigan, is published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press.
Blair Treuer’s textile exhibit “Portraits” opens tomorrow night (Friday) at the Watermark Art Center in Bemidji and will be on display thru March. A collection of large-scale images depicting her nine children, her husband and herself, her work uses thousands of small pieces of fabric as her pallete. A kaleidoscope of color illuminating the spirit of each of her subjects, this dreamy, textural, visual experience of an exhibit was born from the unique spiritual journey of Blair and her family. Blair is a Scandinavian woman who is mother to nine native children in a home steeped in Ojibwe culture. Her innovative art tells her story and the story of those she loves the most.
Katie Hahn, music teacher at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls (MN) is coordinator of the “Harmony Bridge” program.
Katie shares details on “Harmony Bridge” – a musical outreach program by the Thief River Falls public school system to entertain and connect with the elderly in Northwest Minnesota; through a grant from the NWMAC.
