The Untold Story of Radiant Vermin as Produced by the SCSU Theater Department

Radiant Vermin is magical realism allegory that tackles the concepts and misconceptions of homelessness in a way that only theater is able. In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack visits with SCSU Theater Professor Carol Cooley and members of the cast and crew from Radiant Vermin, which took the stage in October of 2019.

Joining the discussion is Maddy Zinken, Community Engagement Coordinator for Pathways4Youth, a local homelessness organization that focuses upon the 100 plus homeless youth within our community.

The Untold Story of St. Cloud’s Rotaract and Momentum

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack talks with Mike Sowada and Kimberly Van Dusen from the St. Cloud Rotaract Club. As a youthful offshoot of Rotary Club, Rotaract is an organization focusing on direct action within the community, and occationally hosts events called Momentum.

Momentum is free with food provided and includes a panel discussion with some of the young leaders of our area. At the Momentum event in October of 2019, speakers included Ryan Cross from BCI Construction; Eunice Adjel-Bosompen from Jugaad Leadership; Ryan Daniel, CEO of Metro Bus; Lynn-Briggette Paradis Boerger, President of Colorful Concepts; and Ryan Schepp, magician, artist, and business owner of Cream City Tattoo.

The Untold Story of Hip Hop Honors English at St. Cloud State University

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack talks with three freshmen at St. Cloud State University about an innovative honors course they’ve taken at the beginning of their collegiate careers.

The class is Mike Dando’s Honors English 160 and teaches the history, form, and function of hip-hop. It’s not just about music, but also the culture and the evolution of America itself. The final exam for Honors English 160 was an open to the public performance on December 16, 2019. of the knowledge that had been dropped all semester long.


The Untold Story of the Myths of the Stearns History Museum

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack goes to one of the best sources around for Untold Stories, the Stearns History Museum where myths go to be debunked!

From an upcoming USO themed evening of music and dance as part of the honoring of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II to a deep understanding and study of the genealogical history of the area, Amy Degerstrom from the Stearns History Museum comes into the studio to discuss these and other upcoming programs at the museum, including more than a few myths that are in need of dispelling!

The Untold Story of GREAT Theatre Programming at the Onset of the COVID-19 Outbreak with Denny Smith

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, just as precautions within the community concerning the COVID-19 virus are beginning to have an effect upon local arts organizations on March 18th, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack talks with Denny Smith from GREAT Theatre.

The Untold Story of SCSU’s School of Social Work’s Bridge to Community During the COVID-19 Outbreak

In today’s installment of the Untold Stories of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack talks with St. Cloud State University School of Social Work professor Shelia Moriarty and Intern Islam Abuhadid about how the college is trying to help its students during these strange times.

Beginning a few years ago, the School of Social Work began developing programming aimed towards helping SCSU students connect with community resources so that students who were experiencing unforeseen hardships might be able to complete their education. Today, however, that framework is providing a lifeline to college students who have now found themselves lost ithin the whirlwind of changes brought on by the COVID-19 virus and its effect upon our world.

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, we hear from St. Cloud’s ISD742 about plans to maintain educating students after Governor Walz’s executive order to keep schools closed for the rest of this school year.

As Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack finds out from Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Lori Posch, school isn’t “closed,” it’s just very, very different right now. Posch has advice for students, parents, and teachers as we move forward through the remainder of a COVID-19 influenced school calendar.
