Marking the beginning of our 8th season, the Granite City Radio Theater broadcasted live from the newly remodeled Pioneer Place on 5th Theater in St. Cloud on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, with a flourish and a flash (didn’t know there could be “flashing” on the radio?)
This time, our special musical guest was Dave Cofell, a seasoned touring musician whose roots remain here in central Minnesota.
And then, of course, there’s the infinite SuccessCo products we continue to pitch as well as a surprise twist on Dan Barth’s Trivia Challenge. Plus, Shades Brigade takes on a holy ghost out at St. Johns!
In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack takes us to the movies with a very unlikely journey. KVSC alum Erik Helgeson was Executive Producer on the team that created the movie Tuscaloosa, an independent film shot entirely in Minnesota with a mostly Minnesotan cast and crew including a cameo by wrestler Baron “The Claw” von Raschke.
Tuscaloosa was set to premier in Beverly Hills on Friday, March 13, 2020, just as the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic was being realized, and suddenly Helgeson found himself in a situation where the entire country was shutting down around him as he journeyed back to Minnesota from California.
In this full, unedited interview Jeff and Erik talk about that journey as well as the movie itself, which is strangely poignant following the death of George Floyd, plus the future of the film industry in the age of COVID. This version contains so many behind the scenes moments about film making, as well as general observations about the future of film, that the entire conversation merited podcasting. It’s a long chat, so enjoy!

In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack takes a look at the life of an artist during the time of COVID-19.
Heidi Jeub is an artist and teacher who relied upon a variety of freelance work to make a living and whose entire world was flipped upside down due to the pandemic. We start with an interview from the beginning of April when we were all just beginning to realize the gravity of the situation and then end out in Holdingford on the Wobegon Trial at a new artistic, community endeavor which is just about to open to the public called Art in Motion where Heidi has found a role as artistic consultant.
In a this Juneteenth edition of the Untold Stories of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack attended the June 19th observance of Juneteenth at Promise Neighborhood in St. Cloud, and this Podcast contains the ENTIRE PUBLIC FORUM as it unfolded.
With the original celebration canceled due to COVID concerns, Promise Neighborhood decided to hold a socially distanced public forum following the recent unrest due to protests over the killing of George Floyd spilling over into the St. Cloud area. Community members were asked to try to come up with answers to two questions, what does St. Cloud need for unity and what is a thing we can DO in St. Cloud to make that happen.

One hundred years ago, two major constitutional amendments went into effect. The 18th marked the start of Prohibition and the 19th granted many women the right to vote. It wasn’t a coincidence that these laws went into effect adjacent to one another. The movements were linked in some surprising ways. In this new documentary, “A Brief History of Women in Bars: A Minnesota Story in Three Rounds,” Fulbright Fellow, historian, and podcaster Katie Thornton looks at how the state’s temperance movement set the stage for its women’s suffrage movement.
In today’s Untold Story of Central Minnesota, Arts & Cultural Heritage Producer Jeff Carmack gets in his car and drives around St. Cloud exploring an innovative solution to the canceled Art Crawls that would normally be taking place downtown during the warmer months had it not been for COVID.
Organized by the artist known as The Silent Kah, this past Saturday’s Art Cruise was the first in a series where participating artists of all abilities and media simply set up their art in their yard, and then you come to it! The next Art Cruises will be held on Saturdays July 11 and August 15.
