With National Coming Out Day occurring just recently, the LGBT Resource Center provides guidance and support for members of the LGBT community in any way that they need as folks make the journey to accept themselves as who they are, but it doesn’t just stop with the LGBT community as we move into a future of defending the rights of Americans, all Americans. And that is where things start to get interesting!

In reality, it’s a new grassroots film production collective that is drawing its members from St. Cloud’s creative theater community, which has been forcibly idled since March. With an obvious homage to The Twilight Zone, the next short film premiers Friday, September 11, 2020 and is called “Interstellar Dilemma” with links to a Zoom premier party to be found on Facebook by searching for . . . and stepping into . . . “The COVID ZONE!”

This past July marked the 30th Anniversary of the passing of the Americans With Disabilities Act, and in honor of this shift in our social and legal environment, Wall and other Rehabilitation Counseling students hosted a 30 day “Ability” virtual event that highlighted different themes and featured international speakers including former Iowa Senator Tom Harken, who authored the ADA, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

With a myriad of community organizations setting up shop for an afternoon of outreach, this socially distanced, family friendly event promoted opportunities for engagement, health, and fun. Participating organizations included the Tri County Action Program, the League of Women Voters, Too Much Talent, the Ann Bancroft Foundation, the Great River Children’s Museum, Heidi Jeub, CentraCare, the Planters NUTmobile, and much more!

They have also just announced six different recognition awards for individual veterans and organizations that have made a profound difference in the community.
Ian Alexy makes up half of the Minnesota musical group Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank along with his brother Teague, and since the COVID-19 pandemic began, he’s had a little time on his hands.
Luckily, over the past couple decades of performing, he’s collected quite a bit of video footage of his performances, and he’s now compiling that footage into a documentary called Making It Shine.
