Anton Treuer helped get the grassroots Truth and Reconciliation group up and running in Bemidji. The group meets regularly to talk about race and to build relationships between our area’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. In this episode of Anishinaabenaajimon: Minnesota’s Tribal Voice, Anton talks about what makes Bemidji’s efforts different from other communities – and countries – that have tried to have similar conversations. It’s not about finger pointing, nor is it a “get out of guilt free” card. Instead, it’s about understanding that race relations have been tense at times. And, it’s about making the next 500 years better than the last 500 years.
