Middle School Masters of Suspense Youth Film Project

Paying homage to Alfred Hitchcock, students at Clara Barton Open School in Minneapolis are creating their own short suspense films as part of 2009 Teacher of the Year Amber Damm ‘s History of Film class. For the past ten years the course has culminated in a film festival where entries vie for the coveted Middle School Masters of Suspense award. This year eight films will compete, Listen, Dead Man Walks Free, I'm Home, Three Down, Sweet Dreams, Neighbor, Secret's Out and The Other Man. The assignment also requires students to storyboard suspense scenes and create a poster with a catchy tagline. The lessons learned by the students go far deeper than a nod to pop culture. KFAI's Nancy Skalkos reports.
