We talk with David Kess, author of "More Than Just Ore: The Era That Really Made Ely," published in 2014 by the Ely-Winton Historical Society. Not a dry collection of historical mining data, this book is a collection of photographs and anecdotes that give a deeper connection to the lives lived in Ely since it was founded in the 1880s. More Than Just Ore: The Era That Really Made Ely is a 2014 nominee in the non-fiction category of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards (NEMBA), established in 1988 to recognize books that substantially represent northeastern Minnesota in the areas of history, culture, heritage, or lifestyle.
