General Manager and CEO Northern Community Radio (NCR)

About Northern Community Radio:

KAXE/KBXE Northern Community Radio, on air since 1976, is the nation’s first rural NPR licensee. We have garnered national respect and are proud to be an independent, nonprofit organization.

With two unique, fully equipped stations and a translator broadcasting across most of Northern Minnesota, we serve a population of about 160,000 and have nearly 2,000 subscribing members. Twelve staff and over 100 volunteers provide quality programming from our stations in Grand Rapids (KAXE, 100kw)) and Bagley (KBXE, 50kw), with a translator serving Brainerd area. Our Grand Rapids station, in a stand-alone building on the banks of the beautiful Mississippi River, serves as our main office. We also connect with our listening area through sponsoring and producing live music festivals and events and other community programs. NCR is funded by its members, underwriters, local foundations, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the State of Minnesota.

About life in Northern Minnesota:

Four hours north of the Twin Cities finds you in a stunning area of deciduous and boreal forests, lakes and rivers. Vibrant, small cities and towns offer arts, music, dining, and cultural opportunities. Our broadcast area includes four federally recognized tribes who are the original inhabitants of Northern Minnesota. Bemidji State University and several Tribal and community colleges enrich the region in many ways. Public lands and state parks offer outdoor recreational opportunities including watersports, snow sports, camping, fishing, hunting, and wildlife and bird watching, and there are hundreds of miles of public trails for skiing, hiking and biking. Education, healthcare, tourism, forestry, manufacturing, and mining are the region’s key economic drivers.
